85-Iran Auto Club 1970s samples

These are some of the plates that are now known to have been provided by the Iran Auto Club in the early 1970s. They use a very typical 1969 onwards base and all have the numeral zero that is never found on a real Iranian plate in country. Older collectors have told how it was possible to write to the club and get sent a plate. This, of course, stopped when the Shah was deposed.
Real private (white or off white) and commercial (red or orange) plates always had the place name at the bottom and never used zero in the number. I guess from the serial numbers, there are many of these in old collections. They have been re-sold over the years as airforce, army or government plates but they are not. They are samples of nothing in particular.
