50-Egypt copies

Back in the late 1990s I think, one collector was working in Egypt. Since genuine used plates are just about impossible to get in Egypt, he had many replicas of genuine plates cast in white metal and bronze; two of each I think. He traded several on his return home as the copies they are. Since then, several have come up for sale on Ebay and I have even seen one advertised as a high ranking air force officer’s plate when it is actually a copy of a 1983 series private plate.
These are all copies and are not genuine Egyptian plates. Egyptian plates are always pressed or painted aluminium – never cast bronze or white metal. The last time Egypt cast a plate was back in the 1940s.
These are copies!
