These are old novelty or souvenir license plates from Antarctica. They are replicas of promotional plates from 1963 and 1964 when Volkswagen loaned beetles to the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition.
There have never been any officially issued plates on Antarctica although many designs of souvenir or novelty plates exist.
