Before the introduction of the 1996 series in Saudi, Utsch must have tried to persuade the Saudis they needed 4 letters and 4 numbers to accommodate all the vehicles in Saudi for years to come. The Saudis said no – 3 letters and 3 numbers was what they wanted. It looks like Herr Utsch’s maths is much, much better than the Saudi police’s maths since Saudi ran out of combinations in 2007!
